BNEF’s Energy Storage Outlook H1 2026 report counts 112 GW of new global storage additions in 2025, the first time annual additions topped 100 GW, and forecasts 158 GW more in 2026. To put the pace in perspective: it took solar roughly 15 years to reach that milestone and storage did it in four. BNEF also projects annual additions will nearly double again by 2036, reaching 308 GW.
