Governor Sherrill signed three bills aimed at rising electricity rates tied to AI data center growth on the PJM grid. The centerpiece is the Data Center Fair Share Act, which directs the Board of Public Utilities to create a separate rate class for data centers drawing at least 50 megawatts so other ratepayers aren’t subsidizing their load. The Governor’s office also touted the BPU’s approval of 18 new clean energy projects (15 solar, 3 battery storage) and $79 million in EDA awards for large-scale clean energy projects, saying the last six months of action will save New Jerseyans over $1 billion annually.
